| Diatoms respond directly to physical, chemical, and biological changes in rivers and streams because they are sensitive to many changes in aquatic ecosystems. Diatoms are present in almost every aquatic environment including fresh, brackish, marine, and hypersaline water the checklist of diatoms was provided between 1981 and 2021 for the first time. This taxonomic list contains; 1050 diatoms species distributed in 3 Phyla, 57 families, 158 genera, and infraspecific taxa from freshwater, brackish and marine habitats of Iran. The Bacillariophyceae were the most frequent of diatoms with 87% of the taxa, 34 families, 118 genera, and 913 species, Mediophyceae was stand in the second rank in the frequency of population (8%) with 12 families, 22 genera, and 83 species, and Coscinodiscophyceae (5%) with 11 families, 54 genera and 18 species. Bacillariaceae has the richest family with 157 species. In this checklist, 11 families had only one genus and species. The phytogeographical distribution of species is presented. |
